Vern Sherman Drinks Tea and Other Tales by I & The Others

Vern Sherman Drinks Tea and Other Tales is the second solo show for eclectic Melbourne artist I & The Others. Using a variety of media, I & The Others has created a series of works inspired by three and a half months in the United States in 2009. From California to Oregon, from Nevada to Louisiana and back again many weird and wonderful stories have been collected. Encounters with deadly animals, hitch hiking through the Redwoods, pyromania in the desert and gregarious white monsters on Bourbon St form the basis of but a few of these tales. In this exhibition these tales are presented, at times quite cryptically, in the form of illustration, sculpture, collage and wheat pastes.

Lyrebird by Hermione Merry

Lyrebird investigates the fragile illusion of reality and desire. Presenting affected sound and video recordings of the male lyrebird’s seduction dance and mimicry song, Lyrebird toys with the chimera-like qualities of desire and seduction. Created to beguile, seduce and amuse.

Subversion Therapy by Nick Ilton

Subversion Therapy is 18 nights of guerilla art installations across the CBD and inner city. Each item shown at Off the Kerb is a duplicate of a work installed on a lamp post, street sign, train station or other, somewhere, at sometime during 2010 Fringe. Subversion Therapy hopes to have strangers waiting around, vying for prizes, stealing and breaking in, being disappointed and trying to call those in charge
